Reporting to Parents

Teachers exercise their professional judgment when monitoring students’ progress and determining grades for reporting, consistent with the Darkan Primary School Assessment Policy. Teachers are also encouraged to use a variety of tools and resources to support them to assess student achievement.

Student achievement for each learning area is reported using the following descriptors.

A Excellent The student demonstrates achievement that has greatly exceeded the expected.
B Good The student demonstrates achievement that exceeds the expected standard.
C Satisfactory The student demonstrates achievement at the expected standard.
D Limited The student demonstrates achievement below the expected standard.
E Very Low The student demonstrates achievement below the minimum acceptable for this year level.

Kindergarten will report using the achievement without letter grades.
Pre-Primary will report using the achievement descriptors without letter grades.
Years 1- 2 will report using the achievement descriptors with or without letter grades.
Years 3 – 6 will report using the achievement descriptors with letter grades.

In addition, our formal report to parents includes teacher comments and an assessment against a core set of attitude, behaviour and effort attributes.

As a school, the staff decides upon which Learning Areas will receive comments to supplement and explain the Learning Area Grade.  These may change from Semester to Semester.  This decision is made based upon the information teachers need to elaborate upon and what is required by the Department of Education.

We are required to provide you with two formal system wide reports each year.   Teaching staff are always willing to discuss reports with you and this can be done through the making an appointment with the class teacher.

This year will be implementing three-way conferences between your child’s classroom teacher, your child and yourself at the end of Semester 1.  This will give you an opportunity to meet with your child’s teacher in a formal setting and go through his/her Semester 1 report.

Further information regarding dates and times for these meetings will be sent out early Term 2.

All reports are read and signed by the Principal.
