Tips For Learning @ Home

Be forgiving of yourself and your child. Focus on relationships.
This is a very stressful time. If you need to put on a movie to get through the day, that's absolutely fine. This will be a time that your children will remember. Make happy memories for them and yourself. Focus on nurturing relationships. Treasure this time together.

Set up a Learning Environment and be Organised
Try to create a quiet and comfortable learning space. Your child may have a regular place for doing homework under normal circumstances, but this space may not be suitable for working in for an extended period of time.

A space/location for extended learning should be a public/family space, not in a bedroom. Above all, it should be a space where you or another adult is present and monitoring your children's learning. Have your child pack up their materials into a basket or container so they can be easily accessed.

Establish Routine and Expectations
Classroom teachers are trained professionals. Learning @ home will look very different to a normal school day. Children will behave differently at home compared to school. Set clear expectations for learning as soon as isolation learning is implemented.

Setting up a routine allows everyone to form good habits. Create a timetable or schedule to set regular hours for school work. Keep normal bedtime routines for younger children and expect the same from your older children. It is important that you set these expectations as soon as home learning is implemented.
